Seventeen years, one dream, and countless memories — Tyler Morton bids farewell to Liverpool with emotion, gratitude, and unwavering Red loyalty.
Tyler Morton has officially called time on his 17-year journey with Liverpool, sealing a permanent move to Ligue 1 side Lyon — closing the chapter on a boyhood dream and opening the door to a fresh opportunity.
The 21-year-old midfielder joins the French outfit on a five-year contract, with Lyon confirming the fee to be €10 million (£8.7m) plus €5 million (£4.3m) in potential add-ons.
Despite earlier English reports pegging the deal at £15 million, the official figures still mark a clean profit for Liverpool, given Morton was a product of their famed academy.
Having joined the club at the age of five, Morton is the latest in a line of homegrown talents to depart Anfield, following in the footsteps of names like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Nat Phillips.
After a solid loan spell at Hull City last season, where he made 39 appearances and impressed with his technical ability and composure, Morton was always likely to attract permanent suitors.
Lyon acted quickly, and the young midfielder didn’t delay in paying tribute to the club that shaped him.

“When you spend 17 years at a club, the fans, players and staff feel like family to you.
It’s more than just football,” Morton wrote in a classy farewell post on Instagram.
“I could sit here all day and talk about the memories I experienced throughout my time at Liverpool but I just want to express how grateful I am to this club!
The people around this club have taught me so much and completely shaped me into the person I am today.”
He continued: “To the staff, players and all my teammates I have worked with, you have been people I will remember for life… To the staff I’m forever grateful for the opportunity you have all given me to play for this club.”
Morton made nine senior appearances for Liverpool, including in the Champions League and Premier League.
But despite limited first-team exposure, his connection with the club remains unshakable.
“A lot of change in 17 years, but one thing that will never change is my love for the club.
